INDEPENDENCE HALL BY GRACE I chose Independence Hall to research. In September 1777, the British army tried to take over The State House. Later that year, Congress renamed The State House, Independence Hall. From 1778 to 1834, Congress met in many places, mostly underground. They returned to Philadelphia on July 2ND. On June 14th 1830, George Washington was nominated head of the army by Congress. After that, Washington stayed in the army. The big, red brick building called the State House is now everywhere, on the 100-dollar bill and the half dollar. The highest point of Independence Hall to the ground is 168ft. You now can take tours in the building at Chestnut Street between 5th and 6th Streets. You should go to Independence Hall.
